A single person living the UK now requires a pre-tax income of £13,400 to achieve an acceptable standard of living.
New analysis from a charitable foundation has shown that living costs for a couple with two children needs to be £26,800.
The calculations were made without factoring most people's rent or mortgage costs.
According to the report, the minimum standard of living for the average Briton is defined as being able to cover costs of an adequate diet, sufficient heating in order to stay healthy, and the occasional night out.
