U.S. stocks make solid gains

Wall Street was in positive territory at the close Tuesday, boosted by lower oil and commodity prices.
The U.S. dollar rose.
At the end of the trading day the Dow Jones industrials were ahead 152.25 points or 1.36% at 11,384.21.
The tech-laden Nasdaq Composite was up 51.10 points or 1.28% at 2,294.42.
The Standard and Poor's 500 rose 21.37 points or 1.71% to 1,273.68.
On foreign exchange markets the euro fell to 1.5656, and the Swiss franc to 1.0340.
The British pound was fetching 1.9690 around the New York close Tuesday. The Australian dollar weakened to .9536, while the Canadian dollar was modestly lower at 1.0196.
