IMUS CITY, Cavite Jun 6 (PIA) --The city government inaugurated Thursday the City of Imus Molecular Laboratory, the first LGU initiated COVID-19 Testing Facility in the province.
This project is one of the city government's countermeasures in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic was made possible thru the support of the Sangguniang Panlungsod with the passing of the City Ordinance No. 4-145 s. 2020 on April 20, 2020 approving the immediate construction of the facility.
On May 8, 2020, representatives from the Department of Health (DOH), Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), and the World Health Organization (WHO) visited the facility for its Stage 2 accreditation. Processing for the accreditation before Stage 3 would take more or less 45 days.
Likewise, the facility also passed the Proficiency Test conducted by the DOH and the RITM last May 29, 2020. From this test, the capacity of a testing facility is measured to produce the correct results on the swab samples undergoing testing.
The Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) technique is used which is considered the 'Golden Standard' for testing.
Under the Public Health sector, the facility therefore will be managed by the City Health Office in partnership with the Ospital ng Imus.
The City Engineering Office supervised the completion of the construction of the two-story building that was finished by the end of May.
On June 4, 2020 the City of Imus Molecular Laboratory was officially accredited as a COVID-19 Testing Facility and awarded with a License to Operate by the DOH.
"With this accreditation, the city government could now conduct more tests, isolate the positive cases and patients will be given the proper attention and treatment until they fully recover from the disease. Eventually, the economy could start again safely with employees and workers going back to work cleared from the COVID-19 infection," Mayor Maliksi said.
