ESPN to air Monday night wild-card game on Jan. 17

The Walt Disney Co. and the NFL reached agreement for ESPN to broadcast a Monday night wild-card playoff games for five seasons, beginning with this current season, the network announced Wednesday.

The inaugural Monday night game will be played Jan. 17 and will conclude Super Wild Card Weekend. It will be the first scheduled weekday primetime playoff game.

As has become ESPN's custom with big events, fans will have several ways to watch.

The game will air on ESPN and ABC with the traditional telecast, featuring Steve Levy, Brian Griese and Louis Riddick in the booth, Lisa Salters as the sideline reporter and John Parry as the officiating analyst.

On ESPN2 and ESPN, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning will appear on "Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli," joining celebrity guests in talking football and analyzing the game. ESPN Deportes will air the Spanish-language telecast, and additional offerings will be announced later.

ESPN said "Monday Night Football" is averaging 14 million viewers through the first five weeks of the 2021 season, up 20 percent over each of the past two seasons.
