KUWAIT CITY, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Muneera Al Sabah, a princess of the Kuwaiti royal Sabah family and also a winner of a Chinese Recitation Competition in Kuwait, expressed her hope on Friday that more people start to learn the Chinese language in the Gulf country.

She made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Xinhua on the sideline of an award ceremony honoring students who participated in the second Kuwait Chinese Recitation Competition.

"Language is like a bridge, and we have created the world to learn from each other. I believe learning Chinese helps a lot," said Muneera, who won the first prize of her age group in the competition with a recitation of a poem themed peace.

"I hope the Chinese language will soon become as popular as English in Kuwait," she told Xinhua, encouraging students to keep learning the Chinese language.

Hosted by the Chinese Language and Culture Education Foundation of China and organized by the Kuwait Chinese Association Chinese School, the second Kuwait Chinese Recitation Competition concluded with 3 winners of different ages.

The ceremony was held on Friday in Kuwait Chinese Culture Center in Kuwait City, where Chinese diplomats in Kuwait, contestants and their families and friends attended.
